Petroleum Coke

Petroleum coke is a black or dark gray hard solid petroleum product with a metallic luster and a porous nature. It is a carbon substance composed of small graphite crystals forming granular, columnar, or needle like structures. The components of petroleum coke are hydrocarbons, containing 90-97% carbon and 1.5-8% hydrogen, as well as elements such as nitrogen, chlorine, and sulfur.

Purpose

Petroleum coke products can be divided into needle coke and sponge coke.

Sponge coke is mainly used for pre baked anodes and anode paste used in aluminum electrolysis, production of carbon enhancing agents in the carbon industry, graphite electrodes, smelting of industrial silicon, and fuels. When using pre baked anodes for aluminum smelting and graphite electrodes for steel smelting, in order to meet the requirements of petroleum coke (coke), it is necessary to calcine the coke, with a calcination temperature generally around 1300 ℃. The purpose is to remove the volatile components of petroleum coke as much as possible and improve the physical and chemical properties such as coke strength and conductivity. Raw coke can be directly used to produce materials such as silicon carbide and metallic silicon without calcination.

Needle coke is a high-quality raw material for preparing ultra-high power graphite electrodes and artificial graphite negative electrode materials, downstream of the industrial chain are industries such as arc furnace steelmaking and new energy vehicles
